چکیده

Cyclic voltammetric surface waves were found for monolayers of Ru(bpy)Z(bpyY+, where bpy’ is 4-methyl4’-(dodecyl-l-thiol)-2,2’-bipyridine, which spontaneously adsorbs onto conducting substrates (indium tin oxide, polycrystalline gold). On polycrystalline gold, the monolayer, probably attached via the thiol functional group, is oxidized in an aqueous oxalate medium to produce electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ecl). The derivatized gold surface exhibited an ecl emission maximum from the excited surfactant at 650 nm. This represents a red shift compared to the solution phase luminescence of the complex in acetonitrile (Amm = 629 nm) or its aggregates with Triton-X100 micelles in aqueous media (Amm = 639 nm).

Chemiluminescence from the reaction of tin(II) with tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(III).

Unlike many other metal and metalloid ions, tin(II) elicits intense, analytically useful chemiluminescence upon reaction with tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(III) in acidic aqueous solution. This finding provides new insight into the nature of this widely used reagent and has enabled the first direct, selective determination of a metal ion with tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(III).

Nonadiabatic electron transfer at the nanoscale tin-oxide semiconductor/aqueous solution interface.

Photo-excitation of chromophoric metal complexes electrostatically adsorbed to tin-oxide semiconductor nanoparticles is often accompanied by injection of electrons from the complexes into the semiconductor conduction band. The mechanism of back electron transfer (semiconductor particle to adsorbed molecule) for a family of tris-bipyridyl ruthenium and osmium complexes has been examined by evalu...

Electrogenerated chemiluminescence. 67. Dependence of light emission of the tris(2,2')bipyridylruthenium(II)/tripropylamine system on electrode surface hydrophobicity.

We describe the effect of electrode surface hydrophobicity on the electrochemical behavior and electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) of Ru(bpy)3(2+) (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridyl)/tripropylamine (TPrA) system. Gold and platinum electrodes were modified with different thiol monolayers. The hydrophobicity of the electrode surfaces changed with different terminal groups of the thiol molecules. The oxid...

In-trough cyclic voltammetric studies of Langmuir-Blodgett monolayers of a surfactant derivative of tris(2,2'-bipyridine)ruthenium(2+) at an indium-tin oxide electrode

Langmuir-Blodgett (L-B) monolayers of a surfactant derivative of ruthenium tris(bipyridine) complex, Ru(bpy)2(bpy-C19)2+, where bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine and C19 = CH2NHOC(CH2),,CH3, confined to the surface of an indium-tin oxide electrode have been studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) carried out in a Langmuir trough. The surfactant monolayer spread on an electrolyte subphase solution was brought to...

Immobilization and electrochemical properties of ruthenium and iridium complexes on carbon electrodes.

We report the synthesis and surface immobilization of two new pyrene-appended molecular metal complexes: a ruthenium tris(bipyridyl) complex (1) and a bipyridyl complex of [Cp*Ir] (2) (Cp*  =  pentamethylcyclopentadienyl). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed successful immobilization on high surface area carbon electrodes, with the expected elemental ratios for the desired compounds. Ele...
